With great sadness we report the sudden passing yesterday of Dr John Niparko, one of the very finest CI surgeons in the world; and quite a friend of the hearing impaired community. We don’t have any details on his passing as of this writing: We’ll post an update as soon as we get more information.
Dr. Niparko was the founder of the Listening Center at Johns Hopkins. He performed thousands of cochlear implant surgeries during his time there. Three years ago, he decamped Baltimore for Los Angeles, recruited as chair the Otolaryngology-HNS Department at the USC-Keck School of Medicine. Although on hiatus from CI surgery for about 16 months; however as we reported at the time, he returned to the OR in June 2015, performing numerous implant procedures every week.
